Key Takeaways

Amazon is set to report its Q2 2026 earnings after the U.S. market closes on Thursday, July 30. Wall Street expects revenue of approximately $196 billion, up 17% year over year, while investors focus on AWS growth, AI-related capital spending, operating margins, and management's outlook for the second half of the year.

Amazon will release its second-quarter 2026 financial results after the closing bell on July 30, with investors closely watching whether the e-commerce and cloud giant can sustain its strong growth while continuing to invest aggressively in artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The earnings report arrives during one of the busiest weeks of the earnings season, with Amazon expected to provide updates on Amazon Web Services (AWS), AI investments, profitability, and its massive capital expenditure program.

Revenue Expected to Reach Nearly $196 Billion

According to Wall Street consensus estimates, Amazon is expected to generate roughly $196 billion in second-quarter revenue, representing 17% year-over-year growth and approximately 9% sequential growth. Over the past 12 months, the company has generated about $743 billion in revenue, highlighting the continued expansion of its retail, cloud, and advertising businesses.

Evercore ISI reiterated its Outperform rating ahead of earnings while maintaining a $315 price target, arguing that consensus expectations appear achievable and that the probability of an upside surprise outweighs the risk of disappointment.

One near-term catalyst is this year's Prime Day, which took place on July 12 and is expected to contribute an additional $5 billion to $10 billion in second-quarter sales. Because the shopping event occurred in Q2 rather than Q3 this year, Evercore reduced its third-quarter revenue estimate to $194 billion, below the broader market consensus of roughly $204 billion. The firm also lowered its Q3 operating income forecast to $24.2 billion, although it trimmed its full-year 2026 estimates by only about 1%.

AWS Remains the Biggest Driver

As in recent quarters, Amazon Web Services is expected to be the primary focus during the earnings call.

Investors will closely examine AWS revenue growth, customer demand, backlog trends, AI infrastructure expansion, and cloud profitability. Since AWS contributes a disproportionate share of Amazon's operating income, even modest changes in cloud margins could have a meaningful impact on overall earnings.

Analysts are also watching whether depreciation expenses tied to new AI infrastructure and data center investments begin to weigh more heavily on AWS margins.

In addition, Amazon continues investing heavily in Project Leo, its satellite communications initiative, which has created additional pressure on profitability. Management previously identified these investments as a factor affecting margin guidance, making any update during the earnings call particularly important.

Capital Spending Outlook Under the Spotlight

Another major question is whether Amazon will maintain its previously announced $200 billion capital expenditure plan for 2026, with most of that spending directed toward AI infrastructure and cloud capacity expansion.

Following Alphabet's decision to raise its own AI spending guidance last week, investors are increasingly wondering whether Amazon could also increase its capital investment outlook.

Because Amazon typically provides guidance only one quarter ahead, management's commentary on third-quarter expectations and AI spending plans will likely receive as much attention as the quarterly financial results themselves.

Morningstar Sees Long-Term Upside

Research firm Morningstar continues to rate Amazon shares four stars and assigns the company a fair value estimate of $280, suggesting the stock remains moderately undervalued at current trading levels.

Morningstar expects AWS revenue to grow at a 20% compound annual rate over the next five years, while Amazon's advertising business is projected to expand at an 18% annual pace.

Overall, the firm forecasts total company revenue to grow at an 11% compound annual growth rate through 2030, with GAAP operating margins improving from 11% in 2025 to approximately 14% by 2030 as Amazon benefits from greater operating efficiency.

The firm also notes Amazon's strong financial position. At the end of 2025, the company held approximately $123 billion in cash and marketable securities against $65.6 billion in debt, while retaining its Wide Economic Moat rating.

Analysts Remain Bullish Ahead of Earnings

BofA Securities also reiterated its positive outlook before the earnings release, raising its second-quarter revenue forecast to $198.8 billion, above Wall Street consensus, while projecting Q2 EBIT of $24.1 billion.

Meanwhile, the options market is pricing in a post-earnings move of approximately 6.4%, reflecting expectations for elevated volatility after Amazon reports results. Recent options pricing suggests shares could trade within a range of roughly $217 to $246 following the announcement.

With AI infrastructure spending accelerating across the technology sector, Amazon's upcoming earnings report is expected to provide investors with important clues about AWS growth, capital allocation, and whether heavy investment in artificial intelligence can continue supporting long-term earnings expansion.
