Snowflake Shares Extend Gains as Software Stocks Advance

Snowflake stock climbed 7.42% to $368.89 on Friday, October 9, as renewed interest in AI and software companies coincided with the launch of another feature aimed at simplifying enterprise data workflows.

The shares gained $25.49 from Thursday’s $343.40 close. Snowflake had already advanced in the previous session, meaning Friday’s move extended its rally even as the broader technology sector recovered from concerns surrounding OpenAI’s revenue outlook.

Software and cybersecurity stocks also strengthened, including Palantir, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto Networks. The wider advance provided a favourable backdrop for Snowflake, although the company’s latest product announcement and recent financial performance gave investors additional developments to assess.

The distinction matters when interpreting the rally. A recovery in sector sentiment can lift share prices quickly, while sustained gains depend more heavily on customer demand, revenue growth and the valuation investors are willing to assign to those results.

Friday’s performance reflected a combination of company developments and improving market sentiment. It does not establish how much of the increase was attributable to the new feature alone.

Snowflake Launches Agentic Marketplace Discovery

Snowflake introduced Agentic Marketplace Discovery in public preview on October 9.

The feature allows customers to describe their requirements to CoCo using natural language on the Marketplace Discover page in Snowsight. The assistant returns relevant listings and helps users compare available products.

Where a listing supports the action and users have the necessary permissions, they can also install it, begin a trial or initiate a sales request from the conversation. Customers can continue that conversation elsewhere in Snowsight while evaluating and implementing the products they find.

The capability applies to the public Snowflake Marketplace.

For enterprise users, the practical benefit is a simpler route from identifying a data requirement to evaluating a suitable offering. That could reduce friction when customers explore additional products or build new workflows.

For investors, however, a product release and a measurable revenue contribution are separate milestones. Public preview makes the feature available for evaluation, but does not establish the scale of adoption or its eventual financial impact.

The commercial question is whether easier discovery encourages customers to use more services and expand activity across Snowflake’s platform.

Strong Fiscal Q2 Results Support the AI Growth Narrative

Snowflake’s latest earnings provided financial support for investor interest in its AI strategy.

For the second quarter of fiscal 2027, ended July 31, 2026, product revenue reached approximately $1.49 billion, up 37% year over year. Total revenue increased 35% to about $1.55 billion.

Management reported a third consecutive quarter of accelerating product revenue growth, citing strength in the core data platform alongside a larger contribution from AI revenue.

The company raised its full-year product revenue outlook to $6.07 billion, implying 36% annual growth, from $5.84 billion previously. It also increased its adjusted operating margin guidance to 14.5% from 13.5%.

Those figures suggest that recent enthusiasm has been accompanied by improving business performance. Nevertheless, adjusted profitability requires context: Snowflake reported a second-quarter GAAP operating loss of approximately $263 million, compared with adjusted operating income of $237 million.

Investors therefore need to assess both growth and the expenses excluded from adjusted measures.

JPMorgan Highlights Migrations and AI Revenue

Recent analyst commentary has added to the constructive backdrop.

JPMorgan included Snowflake among its preferred software companies heading into earnings season, alongside Microsoft, ServiceNow and Cloudflare. The bank highlighted faster customer migrations and increasing AI-related revenue as potential drivers for Snowflake.

The investment argument centres on whether enterprise AI adoption creates additional demand for the infrastructure that stores, processes and manages business data.

If customers move more workloads onto Snowflake and expand their use of AI services, that could support further revenue growth. Conversely, delayed migrations or weaker spending would challenge expectations.

Analyst support represents an assessment of future performance, rather than confirmation of what the company will deliver. Following a sharp share-price increase, stronger operating results may also be needed to justify the expectations already reflected in the stock.

Convertible Financing Adds a Dilution Consideration

Snowflake’s recent financing remains part of the valuation discussion.

The company priced $3.75 billion of zero-coupon convertible senior notes, comprising $2 billion due in 2029 and $1.75 billion due in 2031. The offering was increased from an initially proposed $3.5 billion.

Convertible notes provide financing while allowing holders to convert under specified conditions. Potential dilution depends on the terms, future share prices and the method used to settle conversion obligations.

Snowflake can settle conversions in cash, shares or a combination of both. It also arranged capped-call transactions intended to reduce potential dilution or offset certain cash payments, subject to their terms.

The financing should therefore be treated as a potential future dilution consideration rather than an immediate increase in outstanding shares.

Its eventual effect on shareholder value will depend partly on how effectively Snowflake uses the capital and how the conversion provisions operate.

What Could Sustain Snowflake’s Rally?

The next test is whether customer activity continues to support the growth expectations behind the rally.

Investors will be watching the pace of migrations, adoption of AI capabilities and management’s assessment of demand. The latest Marketplace feature could contribute to that process, but its commercial significance will become clearer through usage and financial results.

Interest rates remain relevant. Higher Treasury yields can weigh on growth-stock valuations by reducing the present value investors assign to future earnings. Energy prices also matter through their effect on inflation expectations and the broader spending environment.

Snowflake’s Friday advance combined a supportive software market with a new AI feature and an improving revenue outlook. Sustaining that momentum will require continued execution, with investors weighing enterprise demand against valuation, profitability and potential dilution.
