Bitcoin traded lower on Thursday after failing to sustain its recent rally toward the $66,000 level. The world's largest cryptocurrency came under pressure as investors shifted toward a more cautious stance amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a sharp rebound in oil prices.
Although Bitcoin has remained resilient throughout much of July, the latest pullback reflects growing concerns that higher energy costs could keep inflation elevated, reducing the likelihood of near-term interest rate cuts from the U.S. Federal Reserve.
The combination of rising oil prices and renewed geopolitical uncertainty has weakened risk appetite across financial markets, prompting traders to lock in profits after Bitcoin's recent advance.
Oil prices have rallied strongly this week as tensions between the United States and Iran intensified, raising fears of potential disruptions to global crude supplies.
Markets have also reacted to reports of attacks targeting oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz and in the Red Sea, increasing concerns over one of the world's most important energy shipping routes.
Higher crude prices could translate into stronger inflationary pressures globally, complicating the Federal Reserve's path toward monetary easing. As expectations for higher-for-longer interest rates strengthen, speculative assets such as cryptocurrencies often face increased selling pressure.
Investors are now closely monitoring geopolitical developments alongside upcoming U.S. economic data for further clues on the Fed's policy outlook.
Despite Bitcoin's recent weakness, institutional demand has remained relatively strong.
According to SoSoValue, U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) attracted approximately $69 million in net inflows on Wednesday, extending their streak of positive flows to seven consecutive trading sessions.
The continued ETF buying suggests that long-term investors remain confident in Bitcoin's broader outlook, even as macroeconomic uncertainty weighs on short-term price action.
Persistent institutional inflows could help cushion downside risks if broader market volatility increases.
From a technical perspective, Bitcoin continues to trade above its 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), indicating that the broader short-term trend remains constructive despite the latest correction.
The Relative Strength Index (RSI) remains above the neutral 50 level but has started to trend lower, suggesting bullish momentum is fading. Meanwhile, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) remains in positive territory, indicating that buyers have not yet completely lost control of the market.

A sustained move above the 100-day EMA could revive bullish momentum and open the door for another test of higher resistance levels.
A break below these levels could trigger additional selling pressure and extend the current correction.
Bitcoin's near-term outlook remains closely tied to macroeconomic developments. While steady inflows into spot Bitcoin ETFs continue to reflect healthy institutional demand, rising oil prices and geopolitical tensions have introduced fresh uncertainty into global financial markets.
If inflation concerns continue to build and expectations for tighter monetary policy strengthen, Bitcoin could remain under pressure in the short term. However, sustained ETF inflows and improving long-term adoption trends may continue to provide underlying support, limiting the scope of any deeper correction.
